In December 2022, I hired them to level a sagging porch, replace support posts and add framing to the deck to accommodate stone columns. The guy adding the framing to extend the deck did not seat and level the new decking supports with the old so it sags and decking is now a tripping hazard. More importantly, the two new pillars are both twisted and middle one is not secured or in contact with the porch roof beam.

Mr Handyman - I never received an invoice when promised, I called numerous and was promised call...
Representatives said they would talk to the owner and call me numerous times Being ignored and failing to keep your word goes to company integrity. It took me nearly a month to get an invoice and was asked to screen sign documents you couldn't see.

No complaints. I am a Grey stone Shirt renter and requested an additional grab installed in shower. Pete arrived on time, got started and completed the installation. Pete cleaned up after finishing the job. Couldn't ask for better service.

Left Hand Doesn't Know What the Right Hand is Doing!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

We live in the country and find it very difficult to find tradesmen that are willing to come to our home. I went onto Mr.

Handyman's Birmingham site and online chatted with someone in the office. I asked if they serviced my area and was ecstatic to hear them say "yes". So, I went onto the website this morning and filled out a service request. Within 5 minutes of hitting "send", someone called and said they didn't have a license to work in my town.

I got back onto the website chat and told the person at the other end what we had been told. They confirmed that the Birmingham office would service our area and took all of our information again and said they would have someone in customer service call us within an hour. When I reported all of that to my husband (who had taken the call), he said that the customer service person they mentioned was the person that had called and said that they didn't service our area!

We never received a second call to explain what was going on. The search continues.

We were charged for time the handyman had to go to the store to buy a drill bit and something else for the job.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

The tech arrived at our home at 12:42 pm. We provided the materials that were needed ahead of time, therefore we were expecting to pay for labor only. The tech broke the drill bit when attempting to make *** in the masonry to install a handrail that had two bolts. After breaking the bit he left to go buy a replacement one. He was gone for approximately 35 - 40 minutes. After coming back he indicated that he needed something else and left a second time for approximately 35- 40 minutes. When he finished installing the hand rail he went to install two grab bars in our bath tub wall. That took him approximately 45 minutes to an hour. In my estimation the actual labor time was about 2 - 2 1/2 hrs. We were charged for 4 hrs. We were told that we were charged for the drill bit that the tech broke and also for the travel time to and from the store.

Their contract says that the labor cost includes pick-up and delivery of materials, if not done so by the customer. We provided the railing and grab bars. After completing the job at 4:45 pm( I looked at my watch) he went back to the truck to get call the company and get the final invoice amount. By the time we went to sign the pad acknowledging that the work was done it was 5:17 pm. We talked to the tech for a few minutes after he was done at 4:45 pm but we didn't expect the clock to still be running since he had completed the work. I called the company to request a partial refund due to the labor time and they would only agree to a credit which will do me no good since I do not plan to ever use them again. They also charged $10.00 for disposal and they didn't have to dispose anything. We have the boxes that the materials came in. They also had another charge labeled PPE, gloves, shop supplies. I have had contractors in my home to do different jobs and never have they charged for PPE's. Besides, I don't think one pair of latex gloves, one face mask, and one pair of shoe covers would cost $55.00.

The tech did a good job, but I would not recommend this company to anyone unless they want to be overcharged.

Signed,

Very disappointed customer

Horrible experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

This company has mastered how to get money out of you without doing anything. They charge you just for showing up at your home before anything is even discussed.

Once I let the contractor know what work I wanted completed, he proceeded to tell me how long it would take him it to complete the job solo and that it would be costly because of the time that it would take. Then he explained how he could get another contractor to help, but the cost would double per hour, however, it would take half the amount of time to complete the project. The only thing he did was open my Murphy Bed box, verify the parts, then discovered that he could not put it together without a wood frame, which was not included in the box. So after conversing for about 45 minutes and completing nothing, I had to pay him $201.16.

He didn't even tighten my security light on the corner roof of my home.

I strongly advise everyone to not use this company; don't even call them. The sales lady is trained to trick you as well.

Major regrets.

Mr Handyman gave me a quote for laying vinyl plank flooring which was 3 days for $2,800. It would have cost me over $5,500 if I allowed them to continue. How can professionals be so far off on a quote? Either they don't know what they're doing or they're deceitful in the quotes to get the job!! Either way they're bad!

Company unwilling to acknowledge responsibility for faulty, non standard building code level of work. BBB argues only.

Original review Oct 26, 2020
Caused more damage than what we started. Ended up firing after 3 stressful days, reaching out to manager didnt help. Ive ended up going to BBB (feel I shouldnt pay for work I have someone else rip out to do correctly) , FTC (website fraud), and AG (investigate if they get more reports). Im not as upset about the horrible work, as I am the lack of fairness and adhering to their own policies. - first workman/TWO DAYS: only had a screw driver for Sheetrock replacement and repair. Fired day 2. Only removed a 5 x 10 Sheetrock section, braced one stud, tore out old shelving. (Last 2 took an hour actual). - second workman/third day: left out wall batting in EIGHT sections. I had/showed new batting to workman prior to start. 1-2 gaps in Sheetrock or unsupported edges not on stud. Even with photos, manager refuses to adjust my bill. Meanwhile I hired a drywaller whos out of this area, paying him extra for distance. He did in TWO HOURS, what Handyman couldnt in THREE DAYS! Actual experience was obvious. A 22yr and 26 yr okd arent 10 yrs average experience as website claims. Even after I complained about first workman, at noon first day, they still sent without proper tools second day. This is locally owned franchise as are all. Past manager/owner theres no further recourse. BBB is just an arguing venue - one of few times company wont try to work AT ALL. But you can tell from responses they dont look at employee photos, and dont keep which work done what days, straight. But you just do not claim to send 10 yr experienced people, BUT ACTUALLY send avg 4.5 and without tools, to a job!! And leaving out critical exterior wall batting...no excuse because THEY tore it out to start.

Overcharged - repairs not completed correctly

Original review Apr 29, 2021
Hired Mr. Handyman to complete minor repairs - replace a dimmer switch, attached door to lazy susan cabinet, tub water works stopper and sink pop up stopper.

Also install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
The repair man could not add lazy susan properly, but another repairman fixed this issue. The new repairman explained that the top shelving was rubbing again the cabinet when the door was attached. The new repairman fixed the issue.
Call back when I discovered the tub stopper did not hold water in the tub and also indicated that the dimmer was not correct. Why didn't the repairman check the tub to be sure it held water?

The dimmer should pull out & in and also turn as an on and off feature. Did Home Depot suggest the wrong dimmer switch - I took the old switch to be sure I had the correct switch.
Mr. Handyman offered to fix the issue, but received a call the morning of the service from the owner, and he wanted to be clear what they were doing with the repair because the dimmer switch turned off and on. I took offense as I assume there was a tone and frustration that they needed to return to my home.

So I canceled the service and hung up the phone. I later called to apologize for hanging up the phone, but this gave them an out as I 'hung up" the phone and cancel the service call. Don't use Mr.

Handyman as the service quality is very poor.
My issue is if you can't repair an item or if the consumer has the wrong part - let the consumer know and don't charge for time if you cannot correctly repair an item.
The original repair man was not good at his job. The repairman who fixed the lazy susan was experienced and knew what he was doing.
This was a waist of almost $400.

I hired Mr. Handyman around 6/2019. The vinyl siding that they put up came back down. The patio I wanted installed was to be 4-5" high. My patio ended up 17 1/2" high and 7 1/2" high on the other side. The patio is 5 different colors, because they hand mixed the cement from bags. Three times they have been out to fix cracks, because they did not remove the cement slab I wanted removed and it keeps cracking where the ground and cement slab met. Now Lon is using the excuse of the virus going around that his business is failing. There business is failing, because they do poor work and they do not listen to what the customer wants.

User's recommendation: Do not hire Mr. Handyman. The company does not care about their customers. They do not listen to what the customer wants and their workmanship is poor. A professional Company should know that you don't hand mix a patio. They should know that cement needs to be poured. No patio should be 17 1/2" high and 5 different colors and crack 6 days after it was patched.

Three pieces of siding fell twice already. A small piece fell twice as well. Patio was to be 4-5" high from ground. It is 17 1/2" one end -7 1/2" high other end. Patio is 5 different colors and has cracked 5 times since it was installed in June 2019. It has been patched and resurfaced 4 times. Last time being June 1, 2020, two (2) cracked were noticed by me on June 7, 2020. I was given a 2 year warranty on patio in July 2019.
